Our Beginning
This following is an epilogue taken from the publication “Yosemite Bible Camp – The Beginning” by Rex Berry. (Printed in 1997)
Friend of Y.B.C.
By Marjorie Blaylock
‘Friends of Y.B.C. was formed April 12, 1986. A group of 23 ladies met at camp and, after a potluck, held the first meeting. The first slate of officers included: Marjorie Blaylock, President – Laina Minor, Vice-President – Shirley Garretson, Secretary – and Hazel Elford, Treasurer.
Our first project was a cookbook, which was the idea of Sharon Dibble and the ladies of the Oakhurst congregation. Ladies from all over the valley submitted recipes. Our first order was for 500 cookbooks, which scared us to death, but we sold those and ordered 500 more. A second cookbook was printed in 1996, and is now for sale.
We have three projects every year. On Memorial Day we have a boutique and sell desserts. At Ladies Retreat, we have another boutique, and this has proven to be a great success. In December, a luncheon and auction are held at Home Town Buffet in conjunction with a boutique. We have also sold camp T-shirts and caps.
In the ten years of our existence, Friend of Y.B.C. has given the camp – in equipment, supplies and money – close to $30,000.00. Our ladies have worked diligently and are to be commended for their support through the years. We now have a membership of over 100.
As Christians, we realize the importance of Y.B.C. for our young people – a place where they can learn about God and be with other Christian young people. We thank God for the vision of the men who started Yosemite Bible Camp.
